COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Your client is about to retire and needs to draw a specified amount from his savings each year to be able to maintain his lifestyle. Using conservative assumptions about the rate of return on his investments, inflation, life expectancy, etc., your firm’s retirement income calculator forecasts that the client has enough money to retire. The forecast assumes that the numbers you used will hold true over the retiree’s lifetime - but how realistic is that?

Jim Otar’s course, Advanced Retirement Income Planning, explores the probability of a retirement income forecast going awry by applying over 100 years of market history to stress test the plan. You will learn how “aftcasting” can highlight vulnerabilities in your client’s retirement income plan, and how it can help you make recommendations to provide a more secure retirement income.

Recent rapid increases in inflation can have a significant impact on the security of retirement income plans, particularly for those who have pensions or annuities that are not fully indexed to inflation. The expanded 2024 edition of this course provides numerous examples of how separate “inflation buckets” can be used to estimate how much additional savings may be needed to secure your client’s retirement income.

Furthermore, now that advanced life deferred annuities (ALDAs) are finally available in the marketplace, the expanded 2024 edition of this course takes a deeper dive into how and when ALDAs can improve long-term retirement income security, and when ALDAs are not helpful.

Jim is the author of “Unveiling the Retirement Myth” and has written many articles for Investment Executive, Advisor.ca, Canadian Money Saver, financialplanning.com, and more. His articles on retirement planning won him the prestigious CFP-Board Award in the United States two years in a row!

As a bonus, when you successfully complete this course, Jim will send you a copy of his aftcast and ALDA spreadsheets upon request.
