Budget 2011 Course now Available!
We've just launch our newest online eLearning course, which focuses on those aspects of the 2011 Federal Budget that are of most interest to financial advisors.
While Budget 2011 does not propose any sweeping reforms or new tax-sheltering programs, it does include a number of specific and modest tax measures aimed at families, caregivers, seniors and small businesses. It also clarifies or tightens up rules relating to various registered plans, including RRSPs, RESPs, RDSPs and IPPs, and the tax credit rules for donations of flow-through shares, non-qualified securities, options and returned gifts.
Make sure you're up to date on these latest tax changes by taking our online Budget 2011 Course at your convenience. It qualifies for 1.5 hours of CE credits for life agents in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario (it's pending approval in Alberta), and 1.5 hours of verifiable CE credits for CFP certificants.

RDSP Course Now Available!
Many parents who have a child with a disability worry about that child's future well-being, and how to provide for their long-term security after the parents' deaths.
The introduction of Registered Disability Savings Plans in late 2008 and the accompanying government incentives give these families a new tool to help plan for that security. Program enhancements resulting from the 2010 Federal Budget make these programs even more flexible.
However, the uptake on these plans has been slow, partly because many advisors simply do not know how they work – and that’s where our new RDSP Course comes in.
Advisors who complete our RDSP course will be able to:
- explain what an RDSP is, and help a client determine if they or a family member are eligible to be the beneficiary of one of these plans
- understand the contribution rules, and explain how the government incentives work
- help a client maximize the benefits their RDSP can receive under these incentive programs
- understand the types of payments that can be made from an RDSP, calculate the maximum payments, and explain how these payments are taxed
The RDSP Course qualifies as 3 hours of continuing education for most programs. Review the CE rules here.
